Dr Catherine Fyans
I am a retired medical practitioner; now trauma therapist and mind-body consultant.
I have a long standing interest in mind-body medicine (what I prefer to refer to as ‘conscious health’) and believe in the primacy of the mind and consciousness in relation to physical and psychological health. I have a particular interest in the effects of unresolved, particularly childhood, trauma/adverse events on adult health and wellbeing. While traditionally trained in Western medicine (under the umbrella of which I worked for over 40 years), my interests led me to also study a variety of other, non-allopathic, healing disciplines. By having a foot in both worlds, I gained valuable insights into the spectrum of heath care practices and health care consumer demands.
I decided to retire from traditional medical practice in 2021, having worked as an integrative GP for most of my career, and now practice as a trauma therapist. I also practice mind-body consulting, which explores the connections between the psyche and physical health. My book details my interests in these area.
I enjoy educating and public speaking to share my knowledge and insights regarding psychological and physical health and am a keen writer and the author of ‘The Wounding of Health Care’. I believe that education is key in helping people to take ownership of and manage their own health.
